Overstayers remanded

PA Wellington Three members of the Ipi Tombi musical troupe charged with overstaying, were remanded for two months when they appeared in the District Court in Wellington yesterday. • Daniel Tshabalala, aged 37, Gideon Bendlie, aged 30, and Morgan Nhlapo, aged 29, were charged with remaining in New Zealand after an extension to a temporary permit expired on November 22. They last appeared in January at the District Court at Lower Hutt where they were remanded for six weeks. Counsel, Mr Peter Boshier, yesterday asked for another adjournment .until May 4. “These immigration cases regrettably continue to have a complicated career,” Mr Boshier said. “The bureaucratic circles are working slowly and I can not ask for any less time.” Mr Jon Bowie, counsel for the Immigration Department; had no objection to the adjournment. Judge Gilbert remanded the case until May 4. Bail is to continue.
