Southlanders win motor race

PA Timaru Experience told in a 200 kilometre motor race at Timaru's Levels Raceway on Sunday when Pat Monaghan and Inky Tulloch, of Mataura, took the flag in their Valiant Charger. They were closely followed home by Papakura's George McLean and George Bunce in a Holden Commodore VB. The Timaru combination of Graeme Richardt and Alan Dunn

(Datsun 1200 1.6) was third. The Mataura combination won a similar event at Christchurch last season and they put up consistently fast laps to stay out in front -' but only just. At the start of the last lap the three leaders were all within a minute of each other after- almost two hours, of driving. They completed 125 laps of the circuit. Thirty-three cars took part in the race, which was organised by the South Canterbury Car Club.
