New face on ‘Fair Go’ tomorrow
The “Fair Go” team will return tomorrow. Those consumer champions, Brian Edwards, Hugo Manson and a newcomer, Islay Benge, will appear in a new series on One tomorrow night. Not only does the series have a new face behind the
panel, there are also some new faces behind the scenes — Diane Gilliam-Knight as producer and Frances Renouf as researcher. But will there be any other changes in the format of the show? “We’re retaining essentially the most popular part
of the show which is answering and attempting to resolve viewers’ complaints,” says Gilliam-Knight, “but we’re also initiating our own investigations into consumer issues, which we’ll ease in gradually. “We’ll consider any con-
sumer issue from buying food to hiring a solicitor as fair game.” The team hopes to look at things in more depth and in a more exciting way than in previous series. '‘There’ll also be a brickbat and bouquet segment from time to j time. But, as always, we’ll be 1 trying to be as entertaining as' possible,” says the producer. The “Fair Go” office at Avalon has been busy sorting
through piles of viewers’ letters over the last few weeks. “Our system is that we sort through the letters and take out the ones that con* tain good ideas, or potential ideas,” says the producer. -Others give us ideas but we don’t act on them as complaints. Some are inappropriate to ‘Fair Go.’ “But we always reply to our letters, no matter how
little they may contribute to the programme. ■ ‘“Our formal programme procedure is’ always to be scrupulously fair to both parties involved in the issue.” One other new face on the show this year is Helen Cull, who takes up the position of resident solicitor.
