Record entries for Amuri show

The Amur! Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s sixty-sixth annual show at Rotheram on Saturday was one of. the most successful, according to the association’s president, Mr S. E. McLean.

He said that he was particularly pleased with the quality of entries in the sheep sections and with the success of the Westernriding and Appaloosa sections, which: were new events at the show., .. ;.

Interest in the horse events was reflected in the number of entries: a record 1150, according to the association's secretary,■ Mr 1.,K. Dunbar. 1 A record number of 40 competitors participated in the shearing contest, which was won by M. Boyd, of Ikamatua, with D. Clark, of Rangiora, second. R. Fennemore, of Tadmor,' was judged to have made the neatest job of shearing a pen of three sheep. The number of people seeking to enter a junior shearing contest was unexpectedly high and the event was cancelled because there were not enough sheep to go round. Mr Dunbar said that about 2000 people had attended the show, which' had had a total of 3139 entries, compared with 2915 last year. Gate takings had amounted to about $l7OO, which was about $6OO up on last year’s. Horse championships — Group 1 hack.— Mrs R. M. Vowles’s Buckshee,. supreme champion hack and champion hack; Miss M.
