Man hurt in fire
An elderly man was taken to Christchurch .Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation, after a fire in a Gloucester Street house yesterday morning. -/ A Fire Service spokesman said last evening that the other occupant of the. house, a woman, was not hurt in the blaze, which was not regarded as suspicious. The name and condition of the elderly man were not available last evening. Two engines attended the fire at 7.30 a.m. and were on the scene for about an hour. Moderate damage was caused, mainly at the back of the building. Fire badly damaged a railway waggon at an Addington siding early yesterday morning. Two engines attended the fire, which is regarded as suspicious, at 12.36 a.m. The fire was confined to one waggon containing a load of bricks.
