Bowler banned

The bowling resources of the President’s XI, already short of pace at the start of the match, were further reduced yesterday afternoon when Brendon Bracewell was banned from continuing during the Australian first innings. Bracewell was reduced to a non-combative role in his eleventh over when, for the third time, the umpire (Mr I. C. Higginson) warned him for running through too close to

the line of the stumps. Mr Higginson conferred with the other umpire, Mr S. Cowman, before informing the President’s XI captain, John Morrison, of Bracewell’s banishment. Gary Robertson then bowled two deliveries’ to complete Bracewell’s “over.”

It has not been a happy match for Bracewell. On Saturday he faced only two balls before being run out without scoring. Later that afteroon his first two overs cost 24 runs, and in his threeover spell he was no-balled eight times and incurred his first two warnings from Mr Higginson.
