PA Masterton A King Country shearer, Colin King, made history at the Golden Shears on Saturday when he became the first left-hander to win the coveted open championship. King, in his second appearance in the contest, completed his pen of 20 Romneycross ewes in 21min 50.145ec, in one of the most thrilling finals at Masterton for several years. s New Zealand’s test team registered yet another win over the Australians in the trans-Tasman shearing event, to preserve their unbeaten home record, the three New Zealanders scoring 221.42 points to Australia’s 208.32. The team which will next meet the Australians was announced as Jack Dowd, Larry Lewis, Hama Hona Te Whata, and Dick Murphy (Waimate). Detailed results: Open championship.—C.
