General forecast: A large anticyclone is moving slowly east and should continue to maintain fine weather over much of New Zealand today. A moist north-easterly airstream flows on to the north of the North Island, accompanied by drizzle, and this airstream should bring heavier showers this afternoon. A disturbed northerly airstream over the Tasman Sea may bring rain to Fiordland during the day and possibly to South Westland later. District forecasts: Canterbury: Mainly fine apart from variable high cloud; moderate northeasterlies about the coast,
with overnight cloud; warm north-westerlies inland. Nelson, Marlborough: Fine, except- for variable skies; light or moderate northerlies predominating; warm this afternoon. Buller: Fine at first, but cloud increasing today; light or moderate northerlies; mild. Westland: Fine at first, but cloud increasing with scattered rain spreading from the south to reach Fox Glacier by evening; northerlies; mild. Outlook:Rain in the southwest of the South Island and a few showers in the north of the North Island; mainly fine elsewhere
