Transport council attacked

PA Wellington The existence of the Urban Transport Council has been attacked at the New Zealand Automobile Association’s. February council meeting. The association objected strongly to the council, particularly in its present format which did not provide representation for private motorists. . ' It was suggested that the council could bring about the downfall of the National Roads Board as it is known today.

The president ot aa central, Mr Roger Whyte, said his association was very strongly concerned that the council had been allowed to go ahead. .He said Sir Douglas Carter, the. council’s chairman, had virtually told the Roads Board that it wanted to take over control of district roads councils. “If anything approaching such a situation arose it would be the end of the National Roads Board as we have had it,” Mr Whyte said.
