Conditional use for pavilion

A planning “oversight” will probably force the Kaiapoi Bowling Club to lodge a conditional use application for an extension to its hew pavilion. Kaiapoi Borough councillors have decided to ask the club to make a conditional use application for the pavilion extension near Murphy Park. Council planning consultants had advised the council to follow correct procedures in case the extension set a precedent for other buildings and activities which could be undesirable in recreation areas. The Town Clerk, Mr R. N. McCabe, said that the council would help the club to process the application in the

shortest time possible. Library fees Increased library fees are discouraging users from outside Kaiapoi Borough. No out-of-town members have joined Kaiapoi library since the family rate increased to $2O last September. Rather three families have cancelled their subscriptions. The committee chairman, Cr M. O. Cleland, said discussions with neighbouring county councils about contributing to the library had been “fruitful.” She was answering another councillor who asked if the “rather bizarre” charges were having the desired effect.
