Indigod will strike speedy S.I. rivals at Trentham

By

J. J. BOYLE

Indigod will be Riccarton’s only runner in the $30,000 Golden Mile at Trentham on Saturday, and he will be in rich company. “He seems to run into either Powley or The Dimple nearly every time he races. And on Saturday he has to run against both of them,” Indigod’s owner, Mr Roger Swolf, said yesterday. Indigod ran The Dimple close at w’eight-for-age over 1600 m in the Timaru Cup in December. He has 48kg in the second leg of the Wellington T.A.B. double on Saturday which could pose problems in the selection of a rider.

Indigod sprinted 1400 m in linin 31.4 s on the plough at Riccarton yesterday. Bijou Lad was on trial for Trentham when he galloped yesterday.

He was sore after working at Riccarton last week, but he went into his gallop freely yesterday, and beat Lord of the Dance over 1400 m on the plough. Bijou Lad, whose first-day mission at Trentham is the highweight, won the gallop by two lengths in lmin 34.85, and returned 40s for the last 600 m. Lord of the Dance is also booked for Trentham and will run in the Silverstfeam Handicap. He looked close to winning form in his two runs at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s summer meeting. Paddy Beaufort recorded lmin 29.8 s in beating Star Order by two lengths over 1400 m in one of the best gallops of the training yesterday. The stablemates. Ay Em and Foam, finished their 1400 m in lmin 31.55, the last

600 m strongly in 375. Ay Em will be Gary Blair’s mount in the Hororata Cup on Saturday. Loose Metal and Haughty Look were paired for 1400 m, run in lmin 32.85, the last 600 m in 38.85. Loose Metal was freshened after a placed run at the Kurow meeting at New Year, and could have a rewarding autumn campaign. Double Jay and Five Over Five returned lmin 34.45. Surprise was a length, and a half ahead of Stead finishing their 1400 m in lmin 37.15. Fondle followed in lmin 31.45, the last 600 m in 395. High Honour, looking bright after a spring spell, breezed over the last 600 m of his work in 38s. Demolish and Mhoroso returned 39.8 s in solo efforts. Noble Hold, a sister to Auditory which has raced

without success in Australia, sprinted 600 m in 375. She is now in the Brydon Mills team. Hackett, and Double Sign finished their 1400 m in lmin 32.65, the last 600 m in 395. Glydavari and Legalize worked easily from the 1400 m, then quickened for the last 600 m in 41.75. Glydavari will race against the three-year-old fillies at the Oamaru autmn meeting. Third Degree led Damazam by two lengths finishing a special gallop on the outside of the course proper. They cut out the opening 800 m in 50.2 s and Third Degree went on to complete 1400 m in lmin 32.25, a good gallop.
