Paul Pendly, aged 13, of Ham Road, Christchurch, with the 9.5kg salmon he caught while fishing with his father in the Waimakariri River yesterday. This is the first salmon which Paul has caught since he started fishing for salmon three years ago. He used a line with a breaking strain of 24 pounds and took just 15 minutes to land the fish.
