A new multi-user microcomputer from the Texas manufacturer. Southwest Technical Products Corporation. has been released in New Zealand by the Auckland r company. Computer Store. Based on the 8-bil 6809 microprocessor, the “S-" microcomputer system starts with 256 K bytes of memory and can be expanded to one million bytes of memory. A variety of disc drives including an 80M byte Winchester drive can be attached to the system and 190 M byte and 340 M byte drives 'are promised soon. This would make it one of the largest microcomputer . systems available in New Zealand. The Sr system runs the UniFLEX operating system that is modelled after the ('NIX operating sysiem. UNIX is a multi-user operating, system designed by staff at Bell Laboratories. It originally ran on Digital Equipment Corporation PDP-11 minicomputers but is now available in a number of flavours on various minicomputer and microcomputer systems. Just as CP M has become the standard single-user operating system for microcomputers so it appears that UNIX and its variants will become the-standard muiti-

Although no S r system has yet been installed in . the country they say that most of the software and hardware pans of the system are in regular use at present and no difficulties in implementing such a sysiem are expected.
