South African nurse ban

D A Wellington The Nurses' Association, vhich represents the majorly of nurses in New Zealand. A-’ill not make any recom■nendations to members considering attending an interrational conference in Lonlon involving South African aurses later this year. The association's deputyexecutive director. Miss Marion Blackbourn said that

nurses had been advised of the conference through the association's journal but would be left to make up their own minds about attending. The conference is being organised by the British "Nursing Mirror" journal and will take place in August and September. Miss Blackbourn said the Nurses' Association was in-

vited to sponsor the conference. but rejected the offer. This was not because of political reasons, she said, but because the association was unsure of what the sponsorship entailed. The Nurses' Society has written to the conference organisers asking that the South Africans be barred from attending.
