Injured tramper, climber rescued
Two persons -'With ankle injuries were rescued in the Southern. Alps yesterday by helicopter in > two separate incidents. A Canadian woman tramper was rescued from the Arthur’s Pass National Park by a Royal New Zealand Air Force Iroquois helicopter. In the. Mount Cook National Park, one of two climbers who fell about 30 metres in the Copland Pass yesterday morning, suffered a broken ankle and was flown out by a Whirl-wide Helicopters Squirrel helicopter. He is John Bruce Marshall of Wai-iti Road. Timaru. His unde.' Alfred McGill, also of Timaru. was unhurt. The woman tramper. Liane Madsen, sprained an ankle while tramping in the Edwards Hut area on Monday. A companion walked out to get help, and four Park Board staff went in to look, after the injured woman during the night. She was picked up by helicopter, flown to the Bealey River Bridge, and driven from there to Christchurch Hospital by private car. where she was treated and discharged. In their falls. Mr Marshall landed among some rocks, and Mr McGill on snow. Two Australians. Chris Morley and Rod Vogel, helped Mr McGill to take his companion down to the Copland Shelter, and then descended to Hooker Hut (1100 m to raise the alarm.
