Dennis colour-bearers should do well at Riccarton

By

J. J. BOYLE

It has already been a season of spectacular success for the Dennis brothers, and the Southlanders have not finished yet. They will mount a three edged assault on the programme for the second day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting at Riccarton today, and there would be no long odds on offer about the chances of a clean sweep with their stable runners.

The Dimple goes after the $15,000 C.J.C. Breeders’ Stakes, first leg of today’s T.A.B. double, her halfbrother, The Imposter, will run against the three-year-olds in the Meadow Mushrooms Handicap, and The Vision gets her chance in the last race on the card, the Post Handicap. The Dimple and The Vision are both by the leading stallion. Noble Bijou, and both four-year-olds. The Vision is winner at three of her last four starts in the lower grade. The Dimple has been racing in richer company this season, during which she has assembled a record of four wins and three seconds in as many starts. Twice she had to bow to Powley, and once to Miles Better, but that form still reads well in the light of the latest form of her conquerors.

In her only previous start at Riccarton this season The Dimple won the 1600 m Jockey Club Handicap in stvle.

More recently she has won the James Hazlett Stakes, beating Powley, and the Timaru Cup. Her only challenger in the Timaru Cup was Indigod. which will be one of the most popular fancies with The Dimple for today’s T.A.B. double.

Indigod did his most recent racing at Trentham. where he performed creditably against some talented metric milers in the Anniversary and George Adams Handicaps. Stiffest opposition for him in the Craven Plate today could come from Spy Force, which has a first-class record over 1400 m at Riccarton.
