N.Z. wheelchairs for Australia
A Christchurch company, Betstone Industries, Ltd, has won an export order from a Sydney hospital for 100 wheelchairs. In the photograph Mr Sid Tranter, who is in charge of the assembly line, tries one of the wheelchairs. The first consignment of 20 wheelchairs is being packed this week. The company which has a factory in Auckland as well as Christchurch and employs about 25 workers, has been making wheelchairs for the last 15 years, and began exporting them to Australia about five years ago. The wheelchairs feature punc-ture-proof drive wheels and are said to be sought after because of the versatility of their inter-changeable components.
