Bikini removal charges
Two young women, who allegedly removed their bikini tops and pants at the Centennial Pool on Monday, appeared in the District Court yesterday. Jade Bartley, aged 22, and Deborah Kay Johnston, aged 20. both unemployed, were charged with behaving in an offensive manner under the new Summary Offences Act. They are the first to be charged with the offence under the Act which became law onTebruarv 1.
Both pleaded not guilty to the charges which relate to incidents during 33-degree temperatures at the crowded pool. They were both remanded by Judge Frampton until March 30 for a defended hearing.
Both defendants were convicted on a separate charge of possession of a prescription poison — dextroproxyphene. They pleaded guilty and were remanded at large until the date of the hearing.
