Worker killed at potline

PA Invercargill A man fell to his death yesterday from the top of the third potline building under construction at the Tiwai Point aluminium smelter. He was mt Anthony William Thompson,aged 28, of Talbot Street, Invercargill, married with one- child. The accident happened just before 3 p.m. Mr Thompson, a regular employee of the construction company handling the project, McConnell Dowell, fell about 12 metres from structural steel on the top of the building. The fatality was the second at the construction site since work began a year ago. A steel worker died in November after being struck by a mobile crane on the site’s main road. £
