‘Free’ hairdo cost $80
A partly disabled woman pensioner, aged 78, ended up $BO poorer yesterday after she agreed to have her hair done in her home by twc “nice young women.” The young women arrived at the block of pensioners flats in Clent Lane, Sprey don, about 10.30 a.m. ant asked if they could do th< woman’s hairfor nothing. The police believe that the ly pair might have preyed upon ly other elderly people, ally though yesterday’s incident a was the first reported to the police. in “We would urge pensioners d, or anybody else to be very
careful about accepting such offers from strangers,” said a police spokesman. Both of the young women were aged between 18 and 20. One was a European, about 173 cm (sft Bin) tall, and wearing a blue jersey or cardigan, and a coloured skirt. The other was a Maori, about 160 cm (sft Sin) tall, and wearing a coloured dfess or skirt. The Christchurch police Would like to hear from anyone who has been visited by, or has seen, two young women fitting the descriptions.
