Yachtsman admits taking car

Greymouth reporter The yachtsman who was aboard the missing Sydney yacht, Juanita, when it ran ashore at Smoothway Bay in South Westland early last month, appeared again in the District Court at Greymouth yesterday before Judge Fogarty. Sir Thomas Graham Fry. aged 26, a boatbuilders' labourer, who appeared for sentence on a charge of breach of probation, pleaded guilty yesterday to unlawfully’ taking a car at Hanjilton on June 10 last.

Mr P. A. Wetherall said that although the defendant had a substantial list, it was his first offence of dishonesty in four years. He had savings, including a large taxation refund from Australia. The defendant still maintained an interest in the yacht which he had brought to New Zealand. The defendant was convicted and fined $4OO, and released on probation for 12 months, and ordered to live where directed by the probation service. The Judge noted that he had already been in custody for three weeks.
