Young man denies manslaughter
PA New Plymouth A New Plymouth man, aged 21, appeared on a manslaughter charge in the District Court yesterday after the death of Peggy Anne Edwards, aged 28, in New Plymouth on Tuesday. Richard Beattie, unemployed, entered no plea to the charge that he struck Ms Edwards thereby causing her death, on or about January 30.
Beattie, who was not rep resented, was remanded on bail of $lOOO with one surety of $lOOO to March 16 for a depositions hearing. Beattie was ordered by Judge Dalmer to report to the police three times a week until the hearing. A post-mortem examination was held yesterday. Ms Edwards was found in her flat in a coma by a neighbour on Sunday.
