W. Indies beat Australia to square series

The West Indies beat Australia by five wickets in the third and final cricket test at the Adelaide Oval yesterday to draw the three-match series and retain the Sir Frank Worrell Trophy.
Set 236 runs in 253 minutes, including 20 overs in the last hour, the West Indies finished with 239 for five with 2.5 of 20. overs remaining. The West Indies captain, Clive Lloyd, fittingly hit the winning run to finish ton 77 not out.
It was the bowling of Joel Garner and Michael Holding which destroyed the innings. Garner finished with five for 56 and yesterday had the startling figures of 9,7, 5,4, while Holding who finished with three for 70 returned the figures of 12. 1. 25, 2, yesterday. But Australia, by deplorable catching, made the task easier for the West Indies. When the final countdown of 20 overs began the West Indies were 162 for three requiring 74 runs to win.
Len Pascoe made an early breakthrough when he bowled Larry Gomes in the third over to leave the West Indies 176 for four. But then came three catching disasters. Pascoe dropped Faoud Bacchus off the easiest of catches at mid-off from the bowling of Bruce Yardley when the batsman was four and the score 187 for four.
the second wicket but both were out within seven runs of each other. Then came Gomes and Lloyd, and later Lloyd and Bacchus. At the beginning of the day Australia had gone through a sensational collapse when it was all out for 386. Resuming at 134 for four Australia lost its last six wickets for only 24 runs. This followed a fifth wicket partnership of 95 between Kim Hughes and Rod Marsh, but when Marsh was out for 38 with the score at 362 for five the rot set in. Hughes followed with the addition of only 11 runs after gallantly scoring 84 in 251 minutes with seven fours, having faced 177 deliveries. From that point Australia crumbled, the last four wickets tumbling for only four runs.
It was the eighth of the 20 overs.
The second and third calamities came when the dangerous Lloyd was missed at 52 and 58 in the twelfth and fourteenth overs. The first error came when Lloyd was put down by Mick Malone at deep mid-on off Yardley when the score was 198 for four.
Lloyd was missed a second time when Yardley dropped him at point off the bowling of Thomson when the total was 209 for four. Earlier, the West Indies had recovered from the early loss of Desmond Haynes when Gordon Greenidge and Viv Richards put on 100 for
