Between October 1 last year and January 25 this year a total of 161 trading vessels representing a net registered tonnage of 897,484 tons entered the Port of Lyttelton, compared with 160 jhips and 886,162 tons in the same period the ‘year before, according to the Harbourmaster, Captain J. A. Barbour. In the first four months of the .current financial year, 22 ships made Lyttelton their first port of call from overseas ports. Of the eight which sailed direct overseas the coal-carrying Dae Yang Prosperity was bound for Korea, the Waitaki for Geelong, the Australian Venture for Flushing the New Zealand Star for Iran, and another coal carrier the Sunda Career, which sailed direct to Japan.
