Timber issues decline
Proposed changes by the Government on forestry incentives available to companies caused timber issues to ease on a moderately active, mixed New Zealand sharemarket yesterday. However, the decline was not as marked as might have been expected, and the N.Z.U.C. industrial index lost only 0.66 points. Carter Holt, Fletcher Challenge, N.Z. Forest Products, and the Nuhaka Farm Forestry Fund were the timber issues to ease. Trading in M. O’Brien shares was quiet yesterday, and it is believed that the broker acting on behalf of Lane Walker Rudkin has fulfilled his requirement. J. Rattray rose 103 c to 335 c after the news that it and Ballins were to merge, and Lane’s Industries firmed a further 10c after > the report that it and the Levin Dye-Works were to merge.
