Addington market
Good sale for store lambs
A strong inquiry existed for store ewe lambs at the Addington market yesterday. Prices for all types of store lambs picked up as the sale progressed and averaged up to $2 more than at last week’s sale. Woolly Romney and Perendale ewe lambs met a strong demand and Corriedale ewe lambs sold well. The over-all quality of stock offered was described as average with only a small yarding of well-grown, top quality lambs.
The top price was $23 paid for a pen of 158 BorderCorriedale ewe lambs sold by W. J. Brooks (Brookside). Last week the top price was $18.40 paid for PerendaleRomney cross ewe lambs. Corriedale ewe lambs sold to $18.60. Borderdales to $19.40. Romneys to $15.80 and Perendales to $16.10. Romney wether lambs sold to $17.70 and Down cross to $17.10. For the first time in many weeks plenty of lines of good quality annual draft ewes
were included in the sale and this helped improve the overall tone of the market. Even lightweight ewes, which have been hard to sell recently, increased in value. Coopworths sold in the $l4 to $17.20 bracket and Corriedales and Halfbreds were mainly $13.60 to $l7 with some sales to $lB. Only a few two-tooths were entered and these sold quite well. A special twotooth sale will be held tomorrow.
