Stolen car burns
A stolen car, which went over the bank of the Summit Road at 11 p.m. yesterday, subsequently caught alight. The fire burnt about three hectares of grass before it was brought under control at 12.45 a.m. today. No-one was injured in the accident. The car left the road about Ikm before the Sign of the Bellbird. The alarm was given by a group of soldiers.
Fire appliances from Governor’s Bay, Spreydon and Christchurch Headquarters attended. Water was carted from the Sign of the Kiwi, skm away, by two fire tenders from Brooklands. The car, a Torana, was visible in the burnt-out area. There was no sign of any occupant. The police are investigating.
