New library shelves

Sir,—l agree wholeheartedly with Mr Simes’s remarks about the height of the bottom shelves in the new public library. I was probably the elderly lady he mentioned, grovelling on her hands and knees to find a book. I would remind Mr Simes that the church in its wisdom provides kneelers for such practices. Perhaps the library could do the same. May I take this opportunity of paying a tribute to the staff for their unfailing kindness and help to elderly ladies, with all their idiosyncrasies. May the library go from strength to strength in its new building. — Yours, etc., H. M. OLDHAM. January 28, 1982.
