New name for bank

NZPA Sydney Bank of New South Wales and Commercial Bank of Australia customers will soon have a new name on their, passbooks — Westpac. Shareholders of the Bank of N.S.W. yesterday approved a change of name to Westpac Banking Corporation. The new name was proposed after the merger of the Bank of NJS.W. with the

Commercial Bank of Australia, Ltd. At the annual meeting of the Bank of N.S.W. yesterday the final proxy vote was 16,675,276 for and 4,883,176 against the change. Earlier, a show of hands failed to indicate a 75 per cent majority necessary for the change. The meeting attracted 1100 shareholders, who included former shareholders in the Commercial Bank of Australia.
