Buccaneer leading

NZPA Sydney The maxi yacht Buccaneer was first past the southern tip of New Zealand at the first 1000 nautical miles of the 8370 nautical mile Xerox Sydney-Rio ocean yacht race. Buccaneer, skippered by Joel Mace, of Sydney, has averaged just under 10 knots since the four-boat fleet sailed from Sydney last Sunday. The 73-foot sloop is less than 10 miles ahead of the 83-foot Adelaide ketch Anaconda II (Jasco Grubic), which is further south but more to the .west.

In third position is Ta’Aroa which is about 50 miles astern of the two leaders.
