Two-tooth competition popular

The annual Banks Peninsula two-tooth flock competition has created plenty of interest this vear.

The organisers have received 37 entries for this event, which is regarded by many as an excellent way of determining the quality of two-tooths to be offered at the annual Little River ewe fair, on February 22. ’

Perendales dominate the entries although earlier in the 14-year history of the competition Romneys were the predominant breed. The judges this year are Messrs B. Alexander, Timaru (Romneys), R. Taylor, Fairlie (Perendales) and C. Darling, Darfield (Coopworths). The judging is over two days. On the first day, February 4, judging starts at Mr G. C. Harper’s property at Te Oka at 8.30 a.m. Those involved in the inspection will also visit properties at Little River, the Hilltop, Pigeon Bay, and several eastern bays. The next day the first farm visited is Mr P. B. Parkinson’s at Kaituna. From there the itinerary takes in Gebbies Pass, Purau, Port Levy, and Pigeon Bay. ....
