Cricket terms

Sir,—l have not played cricket since 1935, when I declined to continue as the ball is too hard. Admittedly I have attempted to play three times since. I cannot recall the first. The second was with the modern Pickwick Club in Adelaide, where my partner, a washing machine millionaire, had to shout, “Run, you fool!”; the .third, at a departmental picnic at Diamond Harbour, where I was discomposed by the loss overseas (in Lyttelton Harbour) of my Nelson cap. While remembering to run, I managed to hit the ball only once. (Very singular, as Sir Thomas Beecham said when a new flautist said his name was Mr Ball).

Now, if one team wins hands down, does the other lose hands up?—Yours, etc., A. R. CRAWFORD. January 27, 1982.
