School computer
PA Wellington Officials of the Education Department and the State Services Commission have been asked to draw up specifications for micro-computer hardware and programmes for secondary schools. The Minister of Education (Mr Wellington) said that the specifications would be for the types of micro-computers which would best assist schools in developing such courses as computer awareness.
Independent buying by secondary schools was resulting in a diversity of micro-computer systems being used in schools. This had certain advantages in terms of students having the opportunity to use different machines but advantages were outweighed by the disadvantages of lack of comparability between machines and the waste of teacher time in preparing and modifying computer programmes.
