Market stays firm
The New Zealand sharemarket remained firm and busy yesterday as investors had more news to' contend with. The N.Z.U.C. index rose 0.25 points to 719.96, its second highest mark for the year. Market leaders were more prominent in the rises than the index indicated, but two big issues, Fletcher Challenge and New Zealand South British, eased. Ernest Adams improved a further 10c, putting its gains to 50c for the year. Allied Farmers’ rose 15c to 440 c on the news of its bonus plans, and E. Lichtenstein gained 15c after the reporting that it had sold its Allied'Farmers’ holding to Yates Corporation. Kearns-Oatina, the seldom-traded Christchurch issue, rose 50c to 350 c.
