Injuries hit West Indies
NZPA Sydney The West Indies cricket team limped to Melbourne yesterday for the World Series Cup week-end doubleheader with Australia still counting their wounded.
They are banking on Bats-man-wicket-keeper, Jeff Dujon, again defying the pain of his injured shoulder this week-end, and the possibility that the broken finger of David Murray, the first-
string keeper will knit in time for the test starting in Adelaide on January 30. The manager, Mr Steve Comacho, has described the injury situation as the worst to hit a West Indies side in a long time. The tourists hope the captain, Clive Lloyd, who pulled out of the final qualifying match against Australia on Tuesday with a virus, will be fit for tomorrow. But that will depend on his progress in the next couple of days. “We don’t know whether he will have recovered by the week-end,” Mr Comacho said.
Lloyd and Murray apart, the sick list is • —Dujon, strained right shoulder, aggravated in the Tuesday game. Despite his good form, Dujon has carried the injury for some time and is in pain. The tourists say he needs rest but have indicated they will play him this weekend. • —The batsman Gus Logie, broken nose. • —The fast bowler, Malcolm Marshall, back strain. He was forced into the Tuesay side when Lloyd was too ill. But the tourists say he should not have played." • —The fast bowler, Michael Holding, knee injury.
