Rockets hit N-plant
NZPA-Reuter Lyons Five rockets hit a nuclear power station being built near Lyons yesterday. The French police said that the rockets were fired from the opposite bank of the Rhone river and smashed into the 80-metre concrete walls which will hold the fast-breeder reactor’s core. The police said that the rockets had been stolen from
the French Army. No-one was injured and damage was limited. The police said an anonymous male caller later claimed responsibility for the attack in the name of a “pacificist and ecological committee.” The caller gave no other details. About 20 workers were at the Creys-Malville site when
the rockets landed, but only one was in the area of the attack. He escaped without injury, the police said. The area was later sealed off with road-blocks. The opposite bank of the Rhone, about 600 metres away, where the stolen rocket launchers were found, was being searched for more clues.
