‘Daily Mail’ down
PA London Associated Newspapers, the “Daily Mail” newspaper group, disappointed the City with news of a £6M plus fall in profits, a city correspondent writes. At the pre-tax level; profits for the year to the end of September dropped from £22,547,000 to £ 16,239,000, with sales taking a £9M knock. from £ 238.600,000 to $229,500,000. Shareholders get total dividends maintained at 10.4 p a share.' 1 '
Included in the figures as an extraordinary item was the £378,000 cost of closing the group’s Jetlink Ferries' business. The previous year, extraordinary items totalled £ 17,700,000 - the cost of closing the London “Evening News.” Profits of around £2IM had been hoped for in the city, and shares in the group dropped 4p. to 171 p after the figures were announced.
