Rape charges
After a hearing of depositions of evidence of prosecution witnesses, in the District Court. William Haimona, aged 26. unemployed, has been committed to the High Court for trial on three charges of rape, one of burglary, and one of entering premises with intent to commit a crime. Messrs R. M. Naysmith and C. A. Pilgrim. Justices of the Peace, held there was a case to answer to all five charges which relate to the period from November 12 to 18. The defendant was remanded in custody to February 1. pending his trial. Sergeant G. G. Cleland prosecuted, and Mr N. J. Dunlop appeared for the police.
On a charge of assaulting a female — the same complainant as in three rape charges — the defendant pleaded guilty and was remanded to January 21 for sentence in the District Court. (Before Judge Bradford) DEPOSITIONS Trial by jury was elected yesterday by Wayne Barry Keen, aged 24. unemployed, on a charge of raping a woman .• during the early hours of yesterday morning. He was remanded in custody to March 2. for the taking of depositions. On charges of assaulting another woman, and resisting Constable P. T. Collins in the execution of his duty, also yesterday morning, he was remanded to January 22. without plea.
