Second XI beaten
PA Auckland Tom Hellaby and lan Donnelly. the Auckland A bowlers are required for the recent Shell Trophy cricket match, bowled the Auckland second XI to victory over Canterbury in the final of the inaugural national championship at Birkenhead yesterday. When the Auckland second innings finished at 194 yesterday. Canterbury needed 283 to win. with plenty of time at their disposal. With Justin Boyle leading the way with a solid innings that eventually brought him 91 runs in four hours. Canterbury started impressively. Then when Dave
Farrant hit out from No. 5 and scored 69 in an hour, Canterbury raced past 200 for the loss of four wickets.and seemed to have the match won. However. Donnelly kept putting his off-spinners' on a good length, the wicket started to crumble. Hellaby chimed in with three wickets and Canterbury were bowled out for 238. The last six wickets fell as the Canterbury score slumped from 206 to 238. Donnelly, bidding for a place in the Auckland A team over the week-end. finished with five wickets for 81. while Hellaby took three for 62.
