$10,000 for Rangong filly
PA Hamilton A filly by Rangong topped the opening day of the Dalgety Bloodstock's yearling sale when she fetched $lO,OOO at Te Rapa yesterday.
Offered on account of Mr Neil Mortimer, of Tauranga, the attractively presented black filly went to the bid of an Auckland businessman, Mr R. J. Williams.
The filly is the first foal of the winning Sharivari mare, Tolvari. From They Told Me, by Magic Carpet, Tolvari is a half-sister to the useful gallopers, Apple Roona and Gentle Indian, and directly descended from the good South Island family which has produced Thorton, Cough, Ernest and Punka.
While a number of Malaysians and Australians were present, only a handful of yesterday’s offerings went to overseas buyers.
After a slow beginning the sale picked up and generally proceeded at a steady rate throughout the day.
Of the 125 lots offered 83 were sold for a total of $165,690. This represents an average of $1996.
