Big haybarn fire

High temperatures meant a busy time for the Fire Service last night. Firemen attended a big fire in a haybarn in Waterloo Road, Sockburn, in the early hours of this morning. Tractors, four-wheel trailers, and other farm implements were damaged in the fire. A hedge of macrocarpa trees was burnt in the blaze.

Firemen also answered a call to a house fire at 95 King Street, Sydenham. The house, which was unoccupied, was burnt to the ground.
