Normal School conversion starts
Mr Mark Rigby throws rubble from the rear wall of the old Normal School yesterday. He is one of the workmen starting to dismantle the school’s rear walls as part of the building’s conversion into luxury ownership apart-
ments. Removal of the rear walls will allow sunlight into the building, and is part of the preparation for new internal foundations. All linings and floors in the Kilmore Street wing have also been removed, and the wing
should be completed in July. The developer, Mr C. J. Berryman, said the total complex was expected to be finished by next January, and it might be entirely sold before it was completed. Response to the inner-city
redevelopment project had been excellent he said. Four apartments had been sold, and three options could be finalised within the next two weeks. Between 20 and 30 persons were now considering the purchase of an apart-
ment. A model of the completed complex is on display in the Octagon, opposite Cranmer Square at the corner of Kilmore Street and Montreal Streets, which is open daily from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and on Sunday
