Edgar’s form outstanding
Bruce Edgar’s form for the Wellington cricket team this season has been outstanding. In his Shell Trophy innings he has made 30.9,64,141 not out and 41 — 285 runs at an average of 71.2. That was before the games which started ye;terday.
In Shell Cup matches, to the end of last week, his scores were 96, 97 and 147 not out — 340 runs at an average of 170.
There have been other notable successes in the Cup competition. Among those who had played three innings, Andy Roberts was averaging 72, John Wiltshire 67.5, John Morrison 60, Mar-
tin Crowe 45, Paul McEwan 42.5, Tom Hellaby 42, Cran Bull 33 and John Reid 32.
The principal Cup wickettaker was Warren Stott with eight, followed by Brian Cederwall and Steve McNally, seven each. In the important Cup business of keeping the runs down, Hadlee was at the top of the list. He had bowled 29.4 overs for only 63 runs, an average of 2.12 runs an over.
Martin Snedden was next best at 2.91, followed by Glenn Bateman (2.97) David O’Sullivan (3.23) Stephen Boock (3.3) Bruce Blair (3.4), Junior Williams (3.52) Gary Troup (3.6) and David Stead (3.77).
