Nursing staff end ban

PA Wellington The medical superintendent of the Lake Alice Psychiatric Hospital. Dr Sydney Pugmire, yesterday welcomed a nursing staff decision'to call off the ban on non-rostered overtime. The staff had accepted a State , Services Commission proposal to take their grievances to mediation, he said. The 47 patients in the maximum security unit had a “lie in” until about 9.30 a.m. yesterday as a staff stop-work meeting heard the commission’s package to solve the dispute. The patients are usually roused about 7 a.m. The staff, who began their ban on New Year's Day, want their higher-security location allowance increased to take account of inflation, and spread to other P.S.A. members who work in the unit, such as psychologists.
