Setback in Australia
The Australian sharemarket which-began in 1982 in two days of listless trading, incured a severe setback yesterday. Leading stocks began to ease from the opening bell, and most large industrial and mineral issues were dragged lower in the slide. Oii issues, which have.attracted many buyers in the last two weeks, were the main targets for traders’ razors as they took 16.1 points off the oil and gas index. The monitor of over all market performance, the all ordinaries index, lost 8.1 points to 586.8. The sharp drop came after the big decline on Wall Street overnight, brokers said. The Sydney market had been drifting during the holi-
day season and the first sign of a definite J trend from’ overseas markets would determine the direction' of Australian share trading, they said. 7.;,.
