Minister talks man off P.O. tower
PA Nelson A church minister managed to talk a young man down from the top of the 22m-high Nelson Post Office tower on Boxing Day. The man, believed to be from the North Island, climbed to the top of the tower about 9 p.m. on Saturday. He perched himself on scaffolding and threatened to jump, according to the police. Police and firemen tried and failed to persuade him to climb down, and then called the minister. The young man was admitted to hospital. No further action will be taken, according to the police.
