Ribolita dead
By
J. J. BOYLE
Ribolita, a winner and successful producer for her Parnassus owner, Mrs Marie Rutherford, died recently soon after foaling a colt to the young Ra Ora sire, Imposing. Ribolita won three races and was a half-sister to Bahrain, winner of six including the Waikato Cup, the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Benson and Hedges Gold Cup, and the Wanganui Championship Stakes, and runner-up in the New Zealand Cup and New Zealand Derby.
Ribolita is the dam of Sovita (by Sovereign Edition), whose wins in Australia included the Queensland Turf Club’s Exhibition Handicap. A yearling Sea Anchor colt bred at the Rutherfordowned Beltana Stud was sold recently to' Mr Nick August of Perth but might be launched on his racing career in New Zealand next season.
The dam of this sturdy youngster is Take Wings, by Grey Gull, belonging to the family of the good winners Princess Patrice and Shangri La.
Mr Rob Fielder the Christchurch bloodstock agent who negotiated the sale, said yesterday that the colt might do his early racing from a Riccarton stable.
