A year of unemployment has not been wasted by Mr David Hall, of Christchurch, who has made a brig, the Southern Cross, from 50 ; 000 matches. After first making a jewellery box from match-sticks for his wife, Mr Hall began a bigger project. The three-masted vessel has a lead keel which can be bolted on to keep the brig afloat in water. Mr Hall sails it on Victoria Lake.
