Kiri sings at Maxim’s soiree
NZPA Paris The New Zealand soprano. Kiri Te Kanawa, was guest of honour at a dinner given by the couturier, Pierre Cardin. at Maxim s, the society restaurant he acquired some months ago. She sang six arias, ending with a Maori lullaby. The dinner inaugurated a series of "soiree Maxim’s." planned to make the famous restaurant a centre of the arts as well as of gastronomic pleasure.
About 50 friends of Miss Te Kanawa had flown over from London, and other guests included the French composer. Jean-Michel Jarre, who recently fascinated China with his electronic music, and Joseph Losev, director of the screen version of the opera. "Don Giovanni.” in which Miss Te Kanawa starred.
