Cr Clark retained as refuse chairman
The Christchurch Metropolitan Refuse Disposal Committee its chairman. . i. J
Cr H t vAj Clark was retfejt he post at the committees meeting last evening. In accepting the office, Cr Clark said that it was “not a job much sought after by many people.
“I appreciate the support and confirmation of my election given by the committee members.” he said. Cr Clark’s was the only nomination after Cr D. C. Close declined to accept a nomination for the chairmanship. He had not had time to consider the implications of the post, he said.
Two nominations for the deputy chairmanship were received, those of Cr Close and Cr A. A. Adcock.
Cr Adcock was re-elected on a show} of hands. It was decided to hold annual elections for chairman, deputy chairman, and sub-committee posts. Cr I. G. Clark suggested that the present agreement’s provision for elections “from time to time” was satisfactory. Cr Adcock said the situation would become "farcical” unless annual consideration was given to the election of officers. A motion that elections be held each year was carried. The sub-committees of the committee will remain unchanged subject to Mr H. W. Cumberland’s willingness to serve on the tenders subcommittee.
His post was in question because of the Kaiapoi Borough Council’s notice of withdrawal from the Metropolitan Refuse scheme.
